Overview Job Summary The Scientific Writer will write, edit, and review manuscripts, grant proposals, research reports, and other scientific communications. Responsibilities include developing project synopses, outlines, and complete scientific works. The Scientific Writer will ensure effective communication of analytic findings and perform comprehensive literature reviews to contextualize the work within the existing body of knowledge. Additionally, the Scientific Writer will identify grant opportunities and develop content for grant proposals. This role will collaborate closely with the core analytic team on all projects. The Scientific Writer must have a strong understanding of the scientific method, with the capacity to tailor it to oncology research, exceptional writing skills, and the ability to translate complex scientific information into clear and compelling content for various audiences, propelling our program initiatives forward through the accurate communication of scientific findings.
Responsibilities - Write, edit, and review scientific manuscripts, research articles, white papers, technical reports, abstracts, and other scientific documents
- Generate ideas and create synopses and outlines for various analytic projects
- Develop content for grant proposals, funding applications, and progress reports
- Collaborate with statisticians to interpret and communicate complex statistical analysis and data results
- Address and develop plans to apply feedback from co-authors, peer reviewers, and journal editors
- Conduct literature reviews and stay updated on the latest scientific developments and industry trends
- Maintain a repository of scientific documents and ensure all content is up-to-date and easily accessible
- Prepare presentation materials including posters and slide decks for internal and external conferences and meetings
- Ensure all written materials comply with journal guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
Specifications Experience Minimum Required - Proven experience in scientific writing, with a portfolio of published articles, papers, or reports or clear capacity to develop that ability within a short interval. Candidates will be expected to provide samples of their original writing, possibly including a test of hypothetical research reports.
Preferred/Desired - The ability to function with minimal direct instruction and oversight.
Education Minimum Required - Master's degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology).
Preferred/Desired - Ph.D. is preferred; professional degree such as MD degree e.g. a non-practicing foreign medical graduate also desirable.
Training Minimum Required Preferred/Desired Special Skills Minimum Required - Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Strong understanding of scientific research methodologies and data analysis. Ability to explain complex scientific concepts clearly and concisely. Familiarity with publication guidelines and regulatory requirements. Proficient in using reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley).
Preferred/Desired - Experience in grant writing and knowledge of the funding process.
