Position Summary
In partnership with the North America Regional EHS Manager, the EHS Coordinator guides the direction of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) functions with the plant's senior management, supervisors and employees to ensure facility compliance with federal, state and local EHS laws and regulations. Works with Regional EHS Manager to identify areas for improvement and implements and executes company EHS programs and operation-specific programs at the plant level to reduce facility EHS liability related to present and future operations. In addition, they support the facility’s worker compensation program including return to work initiatives.
Position Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
● Assists plant senior management in developing and coordinating plant’s EH&S programs and
activities.
● Function as the EMR for ISO 14001 certification
● Ensures plant compliance with applicable EH&S laws and regulations.
● Implements EH&S programs as required by corporate policies and procedures and as required by the specific needs of the plant.
● Ensures maintenance and easy access to current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the plant.
● Represents the facility at company Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Group meetings.
● Functions as a technical consultant to the plant for EH&S issues (i.e., by demonstrating basic
technical understanding relative to chemicals, waste management, industrial hygiene, health &
safety issues, air pollution control, wastewater treatment, ergonomics, heat stress, etc.).
● Maintains integrity of the OSHA 300 logs located at plant, evaluating the plant’s safety
performance and correlating accident frequency and severity with workers’ compensation cost.
● Supports plant purchasing department to minimize risk of future liability
● Responsible for the completion of the EPA “Community Right To Know” SARA Section 313 Form
R Toxic Release reports. Collects data and prepares and submits reports to federal, state and
local authorities.
● Conducts periodic inspections of the plant for EH&S compliance and best management practices.
● Conducts or arranges for wastewater, noise, particulate, air emission sampling and other field
activities within the plant as needed.
● Manages the facility industrial hygiene program including noise sampling and other field sampling activities.
● Evaluates all plant expansions and/or process modifications. Reviews capital appropriation
requests for EH&S impacts and any regulatory requirements.
● Ensures that all records related to EH&S programs are maintained and are current.
● Assists in the investigations of work related injuries and development of programs to prevent such accidents and injuries from recurring.
● Apprises management of EH&S costs borne by the plant. Participates in the facility’s annual
planning and budgeting process to identify environmental capital and expense needs.
● When appropriate, assists in the management of any soil and/or groundwater remedial activities
including conducting negotiations with regulatory agencies and hiring and directing engineering
consultant firms. Provides technical oversight and maintains cost accounting records consistent
with company procedures.
● Makes arrangements for waste disposal pickups as required. Coordinates the processing of
payment for disposal transactions (Purchase orders, approve invoices, etc) and is responsible for
the maintenance of disposal records. Ensures that all shipments of hazardous and
non-hazardous waste are properly manifested and labeled.
● Tracks and archives all semi-annual and annual waste information both internally and externally.
● Acts as the plant’s main point of contact during discussions and negotiations with Environmental
and Health & Safety regulatory agencies (e.g. during inspections, permit renewals).
● Reports TSCA allegations as appropriate to the leadership within the facility and at corporate.
● Works closely with plant’s senior management to identify community EH&S concerns regarding
facility operations, and provides technical information, as necessary, to address those concerns.
● Develops and delivers required EH&S training to all levels of the organization.
● Interfaces with workers’ compensation third party administrators to bring cases to a satisfactory
resolution.
● Coordinates medical/health evaluations of employees as mandated by regulatory agencies or
corporate policy.
● Coordinates the resolution of loss control recommendation with plant senior management and
North America Regional EHS Manager.
● Acts as facility Emergency Management Response.
Qualifications-Education/Experience
Required:
● High school diploma, GED or equivalent
● OSHA 30 Hour Certification
● Minimum three years of direct EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment
● Proven track record of EHS excellence
● Knowledge of plant operations, mechanical operations and waste generation processes
● Ability to develop and administer EH&S programs on a plant-wide basis and monitor their
implementation
● Strong communication skills with all levels of employees
● Proficient Google Suite skills
● Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal Environmental, Safety and Health Regulations
Preferred:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Safety/Industrial Hygiene, or technical discipline such as chemistry/biology.
● Advanced degree in Safety/Industrial Hygiene or a related technical discipline
● Professional accreditation from BCSP or similar organization
Travel Requirements
